# Mod reply templates Fill in the `[brackets]`. A mod reads and sends every one of these. Keep them short. When you quote a scam link, defang it (`discord-nitro[.]ru`) so nobody can click it. ## 1. Public scam warning (post in the channel after deleting a scam) > ⚠️ Heads up: a scam link was just posted here and removed. Real Nitro gifts show Discord's own gift embed with an **Accept** button (links on discord.gift or discord.com/gifts), and real Steam pages are only on **steamcommunity.com** and **steampowered.com**. Watch for lookalikes like dlscord or steamcomunity. If you clicked it, change your password now, turn on 2FA, and check Settings > Authorized Apps. Never scan a QR code someone sends you to "verify". ## 2. Announcement: DM scam alert (for #announcements, once a month or after a wave) > 🛡️ **Scam alert.** Nobody from [SERVER] staff, Discord, or Steam will ever DM you asking you to log in, scan a QR code, "verify", or talk to "support" because you were "accidentally reported". Real Discord staff don't DM you about your account. If someone does, don't click anything. Block them and send a screenshot to [#mod-mail / @ModMail]. ## 3. Timeout notice (DM or reply) > Hi [user], you've been timed out for [duration] in [SERVER] for breaking rule [#]: [rule in plain words]. Message that triggered it: "[short quote or 'a link we flagged as unsafe']". You can chat again after the timeout ends. If you think this was a mistake, [appeal method]. — [Mod name] ## 4. Ban notice (DM before banning, if their DMs are open) > Hi [user], you've been banned from [SERVER] for [reason: posting scam links / repeated rule [#] breaks / raid]. If your account was hacked and you've secured it, you can appeal here: [appeal link/method]. Include your username and what happened. — [SERVER] mod team ## 5. "Your account was probably hacked" (DM to an established member who posted a scam) > Hey [user], your account just posted a scam link in [SERVER], so it's probably compromised. We deleted it and gave you a [duration] timeout so it can't spread. Next steps: (1) change your Discord password (this signs out other sessions), (2) turn on 2FA, (3) check Settings > Authorized Apps and remove anything you don't recognize, (4) if you ran a "game" or "test" file someone sent you, scan your PC. Message us when you're secure and we'll lift the timeout. No hard feelings. ## 6. Invite reminder (public, friendly) > Hey [user], we don't allow server invites outside [#partners]. If you want to partner, message [@ModMail]. Thanks! ## 7. Appeal replies **Accepted** > Hi [user], we reviewed your appeal and lifted your [ban/timeout]. Thanks for explaining. Please re-read [#rules]. Welcome back. — [Mod] **Denied** > Hi [user], we reviewed your appeal for case #[ID]. We're keeping the [ban/timeout] because [one specific reason]. You can appeal again after [date/30 days]. — [Mod] **Need more info** > Hi [user], thanks for appealing case #[ID]. Can you tell us [what happened / whether your account was hacked / what you meant by X]? We'll reply within [N days]. ## 8. False positive apology (when AutoMod blocked a normal message) > Sorry [user], our filter caught that by mistake. You're not in trouble. We're tweaking the rule. Feel free to repost (or let us know what you were trying to say). ## 9. De-escalation (public, in the channel during a heated argument) > Hey all, let's take a breather. Disagreeing is fine, but personal attacks aren't (rule [#]). I've turned on slowmode for a bit. If you want to keep going, take it to [#debate / DMs] and keep it civil. Thanks. ## 10. Personal warning (DM after an argument or insult) > Hi [user], quick note from the [SERVER] mods about [#channel] earlier: [what they did, e.g. "calling another member X"] breaks rule [#]. This is a warning, not a punishment. Next time it'll be a timeout. If someone was targeting you, tell us and we'll look into it. — [Mod]
